My Broken Elbow

This last monday while playing softball on the same field where Britney hurt her shin, I broke my elbow. It started out as a normal game. We were doing pretty good. About the 4 inning I dove for a ball and when I planted my elbow to break the fall it felt like I kind of tweeked it. Then two innings later I dove going the other direction and planted the elbow the same way. When my hand made contact with the ground my elbow immediately popped. I knew it wasn't good, but being competitive I finished out the play. I have to say that both times I was able to make the play and get the outs. Anyway I went to the dugout in some pretty significant pain. I didn't want to give up so I kept playing and it hurt when I tried to throw. I pulled the last straw when I went up to bat. I got on base with a very weak hit and felt like my arm was going to fall off. When I got home I put some ice on my arm and took some Ibuprofen. By the end of the night I was able to sleep and woke up without much pain. The only problem was that my elbow was about twice the size of the other one. I decided that I should get it checked out. I made an appointment to go to the chiropractor down in Soda wednesday.

He was surprised to see my elbow so swollen and did some work on it to get some swelling out. He suspected that I had torn some ligaments but decided to take an x-ray for the fun of it. As soon as the x-ray was developed he had his nurse make an appointment for me with an Orthopedic surgeon in Pocatello. Then he showed me that I had in fact broken my elbow. He thinks that it is an old break from years ago that I didn't know about, and that I just rebroke it. So I will see the other doctor on wednesday and see what we have to do. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it isn't all that serious and will be an easy fix. Here are a few pictures of the injury.

Try and guess which elbow it is.

Here is my left arm x-ray for comparison. I just took a picture of the x-ray film itself so it isn't the greatest.

You can see that broken spot on the left. It almost looks like my elbow became pacman.

Here are all the different angles they took today.

Surprisingly enough It doesn't hurt as bad as I imagined a broken bone would feel like. We'll see what the surgeon says. I really hope I don't need surgery, but who knows. Wish me luck.

Kid's Day In The Park

Last Saturday, Liz and Alex drove to Pocatello to go to the Idaho State Journal Kids Fair. Everything was free for the kids except the food. This day was full of surprises. The first surprise of the day was Liz locking her keys in the car. Thank goodness she rolled down the window a little before we got out. We had to use a stick to unlock the car from the inside. Another surprise was when Liz and I were passing a booth at the fair and this lady addressed us as the moms. I think she thought we were a gay couple!

They had so many activities for the kids. Here is Alex in the fire engine.

Alex was so scared of the D.A.R.E dog that he started crying and just wanted to get away from it. The police officer asked me, "What do you put in his crib?" Such a sad face.

Liz and Alex

Alex just chilling on the mats. He had a fun filled afternoon.

Another surprise of the day. We were walking to the car and Liz asked me "What is on your leg?" I looked down and saw this huge yellow mess and I had no idea what it was. Liz then said, "You stepped in cotton candy!" I took off the huge chunk before I took this picture. Who knows how long I had been walking around with cotton candy on my leg.

My Blog

Well I decided a while ago that I was going to write a book. It is more of a retroactive journal that I need to write. I decided that rather than just writing on my computer I would take advantage of this blogging idea and broadcast these stories as I go. I don't know if anyone other than my family will care but I just wanted to put it out there for people to enjoy. I plan on posting once a week or more often if I feel inclined to do so. Anyway I'm going to have fun with it so maybe someone else will also. Here is the link to the blog or you can click on it in the list.

Our Meager Little Garden

This blog is as a result of Brandon Hess. He told me the other day at the Salt Lake
Buzz game we went to that our blog stuck. He made the comment because we haven't
blogged very frequently. So, here you go Brandon this one is for you.
We have been pretty busy lately. Jess left for the MTC on wednesday June 3rd. It was a really quick goodbye because the MTC is afraid of the Swine Flu spreading anymore that it already has inside. A total of 3 missionaries have it. Needless to say my Mom wasn't a happy camper after we threw Jess out on the curb and got run off by a cranky old Elder missionary. This is about the only decent picture we got of Jess before he had to go inside. We didn't even get to see his missionary tag.
On to other items of interest. Today when I got home from work Britney and I decided to see how green our thumbs really are. I planted actual plants in a big pot, which included: corn, carrots, peas, onions, and little tiny pumpkins. I really don't know if they will actually grow, but it will be fun to see what comes up. I'm mostly excited for the corn. I think it will be amazing if i can get it to grow in a pot. To tell you the truth there it probably too much trying to grow in one pot. Britney on the other hand got some flowers and and put them in her own pots.

This is my mini garden

This is Britney's flower garden in the process.

And here is the finished product.

We are having tons of fun being home this summer. I didn't realize what it was like to not be a slave for the summer. We'll see if we can make this a more frequent event.
